A best-practice example of future-oriented building technology, energy management, and sanitary solutions can be discovered at the upcoming ISH in March on the exhibition grounds themselves: the newly built Hall 12 by kadawittfeldarchitektur not only provides a floor area of almost 34,000 square meters on two levels, making it the largest hall at Messe Frankfurt, it is also equipped with 168 heaters, 34 kilometers of piping, 6 refrigeration machines, 268 toilets, and 9,000 square meters of solar arrays on the roof. But more than that is new at the forthcoming world's leading trade fair for water, heat and air-conditioning: the weekdays have been changed so that ISH is now held from Monday, 11 March to Friday, 15 March. The expanded area has also resulted in a new hall structure – 1,500 of the approximately 2,500 exhibitors will be found at new locations. Thematic zones are regrouped.

The responsible use of water and energy for the purposes of conserving resources is a global and acute challenge, the answers to which may lie, among other things, in the installation of innovative and intelligent building technology for air-conditioning, water and heat supply. As a reminder: The Paris Climate Agreement stated that global warming should be limited to well below 2 degrees Celsius, while more recent recommendations point to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius. Germany's contribution and long-term objective is to become largely greenhouse gas-neutral by 2050. The building sector is currently responsible for around 30 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in Germany. The objectives are to be achieved by means of energy efficiency measures for the construction and refurbishment of buildings and increased use of renewable energies. With a view to global and European energy policy, the declared aim of ISH is to promote efficient and sustainable technologies combined with greater comfort. The all-encompassing digitization through the Internet of Things (IoT) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) are additional overarching focal points of the trade fair. A multifaceted supporting program with forums, lectures, and guided tours offers easy and concise orientation.

Selection@ISH is divided into orientation formats such as the "Pop up my Bathroom" trend forum, the "Design Plus" competition, and the expert tours by World Architects. Join top architects and insiders as they walk around the trade fair! The tours start on the Monday of the fair with "Talks & Tours" guided by Elisabeth Endres (IB Hausladen) and Peter Ippolito (Ippolito Fleitz Group). Further Guided Tours in English and German are offered from Monday to Thursday by Martin Wiedenmann (Schmidhuber), Alexander Brenner (Alexander Brenner Architekten), Anna Philipp (Philipparchitekten), Tina Kammer (Interior Park), Prof. Markus Pfeil (Pfeil & Koch Ingenieurgesellschaft), and Martina Metzner (abaut). The number of participants is limited, registration is kindly requested.

All the events with training and informative contents, such as the ISH Technology and Energy Forum, the Building Forum, and the Real Estate Forum, are grouped under Skills@ISH. At the special BIM@ISH area in Hall 10.3, BIM applications along the entire "Design – Build – Operate" value chain will be presented. In addition, the Building Forum on Wednesday, 13 March 2019, will deal with the topic of BIM – Building Information Modeling.

In the fast-growing ISH Energy section, everything to do with heating systems can be found in Halls 11.0/ 11.1 as well as 12.0/ 12.1. Halls 9/ 9.1 focus on heat distribution. Aspects such as sector coupling, the greater coalescence of heat and renewable electricity, digital heating and all-embracing Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) are strong driving forces here. Halls 11.1 and 9.2 are specially dedicated to the still fascinating topic of "heating with wood". Hall 8.0 addresses air-conditioning technology with a strong focus on indoor air quality. And visitors looking for building automation solutions will get their money's worth in Halls 10.2 and 10.3.

In the ISH Water zone in Halls 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.1 as well as in Hall 4.1, everything revolves around water, or more precisely the bathroom and drinking water systems of tomorrow. The wellness concept of the past few years has shifted to mindfulness and spiritual cleansing, as the researchers at the Zukunftsinstitut put it. The fact that the bathroom no longer only serves a purely functional purpose but that the trend towards more homeliness is intensifying can be seen at the upcoming ISH in the more colorful bathroom atmosphere. Color in the bathroom is the design theme of ISH Water – and the theme of the ISH special show "Pop up my Bathroom" (Foyer of Hall 4.0, Room: Europa).

Digitalization is also progressing in bathrooms and water management. The German Sanitation, Heating and Air Conditioning Association (ZVSHK; Hall 11.1, Stand E87) is presenting a special show on precisely this topic. "We network products, processes, projects, and people," explains Michael Hilpert, President of ZVSHK. In addition, the ZVSHK provides information about the care bathroom with a focus on home care in Hall 3.1. Age-appropriate bathrooms, which are, for example, equipped with level-access showers, will be a major theme of the entire ISH Water.
