Herzog-Ulrich Elementary School

 Back to Projects list
Location
Lauffen am Neckar, Germany
Year
2008

The school building of the Herzog Ulrich Elementary School was built in 1907. Education and the school system have changed in the 100 years and it was then time to also make a reform of the interior space. The organisational restructuring of the teachers’ area, the classrooms and sanitary facilities as well as the inclusion of a new staircase should fulfil the new requirements of the school day and the landmark building. Clearly defined “spacefurniture” distinguish rooms and areas and are a contrast to the existing landmark building at the same time. Strongly colored spaces create identity and make a stay into an experience. The color intensity of the rooms corresponds to the intensity of their use. Each school day begins and ends by passing through the new staircase. This pink-colored space is a kind of colorgate into the school world.
