Kindergarten "Les Vimeteres"

 Back to Projects list
Location
Vila-seca (Tarragona), Spain
Year
2011

The geometry of the project articulates the space. Constructively inspired in a traditional mansard roof, we were interested in how it could remember the first pictures of a house children draw. Once inside people are surprised by the volume. The spatial experimentation is focused on three pyramidal bodies that intersect forming a single body with smooth changes of direction. The volume is crossed by twelve mansards, that open into a courtyard setting visual communication between interior and exterior. The fact that the roofs do not touch the ground and give the impression of floating and light can enter by the perimeter. The granite placated gives the building an urban image. The porch takes the whole height, being the highest place. The building has offered an innovative space for the town. The use for a kindergarten offers, if possible, more sense to architectonic experiment, which starts from the free view of childhood, the fascination of the kaleidoscope and the poetic image of a child on a swing.
